Drones are ideal tools for monitoring wildlife, studying the environment or carrying out anti-poaching patrols. Drones can fly lower and slower than manned aircraft and are much quieter, enabling researchers to observe animals at relatively close range with minimal disturbance while providing detailed GPS coordinates. Already used to survey and monitor wildlife areas and populations, small drones provide a means of collecting important information in hard-to-get areas, at a lower cost than manned aircraft. In addition, data captured by cameras is typically far more accurate than the human eye alone.
Designed to provide cost effective, real time data or post processed imaging and data analysis, drones can be operated in challenging conditions and without risk to personnel. Environmental applications include:
- Conservation activities
- Disease control.
- Fisheries management.
- Monitoring endangered species.
- Monitor migration paths.
- Geological and botanical analysis and management.
